Blind Rivets - Advantages of "Blind"  POP® Rivets
The ability to set POP rivets without the need for access at the back of the work makes their use mandatory in many instances. However, their many additional advantages make POP rivets the logical choice in numerous applications where the blind rivet setting feature is not of primary importance, such as:

  • Low in-place costs
  • Fast assembly
  • Low-cost, lightweight, easily portable tools
  • Vibration-proof assembly
  • No surface marring
  • Exceptional versatility
  • High grip and pull-up strengths
  • Tamperproof
  • Increased design flexibility

Blind Rivets

Blind Rivets are multi-piece rivet assemblies, capable of being installed from one side of the work piece. Traditionally, blind rivets were used on aircraft leading edges, trailing edges, and close out areas which are limited to access to one side of the structure.  Current blind rivet usage has expanded to many additional areas of the aircraft in an effort to decrease labor expense and to address the ergonomic issues of solid riveting.

How They Work

A blind POP® rivet consists of two parts; the rivet body and setting mandrel.

1. The POP rivet body is inserted into a prepared hole which passes through the materials to be joined.

2. The tool is actuated and the jaws of the setting tool grip the mandrel.

3. The rivet is set by pulling the mandrel head into the rivet body, expanding it to form a strong, tight and reliable joint. At a predetermined setting force, the mandrel beaks and falls away.

Types of POP® Rivets

Open End
General purpose open rivet available in a wide range of materials and head styles. Suitable for applications with low load bearing requirements.

Closed End
Designed with a completely closed body, this rivet is ideal for applications that need to to be water or pressure tight or where 100% mandrel retention is required.

Soft Set
Soft-Set POP Rivets incorporate a body and mandrel of special aluminum alloys.

Multi-Grip™
Designed to accommodate a wider grip range than other rivets allowing for reduced inventory levels. Provide good. rattle free, joint construction even in irregular or inconsistent holes.

HR® Rivet
High Retention Rivets for Metal and Plastic-to-Metal Applications. Provides increased blind side expansion and load spreading during setting. Excellent mandrel retention and rattle resistance.

HS Rivet
High Strength Rivets with large blind side expansion for structural applications. With excellent shear and tensile, also provides vibration resistance and enhances joint integrity. RoHS compliant.

Pull-Thru Rivet
The Pull-Thru (PT) double countersunk rivet for low clearance applications and a double flush set.

Ultra-Grip®
Provides superior holding power over other high strength rivets. Locking feature seals the mandrel head into the body preventing head drop out and keeps the application free of contamination from metal fragments.

T-Rivet
Offers the features of a peel rivet with added benefit of pull-up. Improved shear strength is also achieved due to the mandrel head retention after setting.

LSR (Load Spreading Rivet) POP Rivets
The load spreading characteristics of the LSR make this rivet ideal for use in vulnerable, friable and very soft materials, particularly plastics.

Easy Entry
Easy Entry Rivets line up odd shaped or misaligned holes in multiple sheets of material to make production easier and faster.

Grooved Rivet
Designed to set within a hole in fibrous materials such as wood. When the rivet sets, the body shortens and the fibres of the material are grasped between the closed grooves.

Peel Type Rivets
Ideal for joining softer and more brittle materials such as plastics, rubber, wood, GFRP or laminates.
