July 99 - "Dry Film" Lubricant
For specific application assistance or more detailed information regarding the insert materials available, please contact the Heli-Coil Applications Engineering Group.
Heli-Coil Screw-Lock Inserts are often coated with what is commonly known as a "dry film" lubricant or molybdenum sulfide coating. This coating is applied to the insert and baked on to provide a solid, compressible lubricant.
"Dry Film" provides the galling resistance required when inserting screws of similar materials into a Screw-Lock Insert assembly. An additional benefit is realized as the lubricant allows for easier insert installation into the tapped hole.
Molybdenum Disulfide applied by Heli-Coil meets the requirements of Mil-L-46010 and can be certified as such.
"Dry Film" Lube may not be suitable for extreme vacuum applications or for use in some clean room environments.
