May 99 - Heli-Coil Insert Materials

For specific application assistance or more detailed information regarding the insert materials available, please contact the Heli-Coil Applications Engineering Group.

Heli-Coil Screw-Thread Inserts are available in a variety of materials to suit the ever expanding application requirements of our customers. For most typical applications, our standard insert material, 18-8 Stainless Steel will meet most requirements for strength and corrosion resistance. Stainless Steel inserts are the most popular and operate in temperature ranges up to 800 F. For applications which require high temperature reliability, inserts made of Inconel X-750 are available. Inconel inserts offer the benefits of the stainless steel insert with the added benefit of high temperature resistance. Inconel X-750 has an upper temperature limit of 1000 F.

For salt water applications, Heli-Coil wire inserts are available in Phosphor Bronze material. While Phosphor Bronze is not quite as strong as Stainless Steel or Inconel X-750, it does possess superior salt water corrosion protection and is used extensively in many Naval and marine applications. For specialized applications where galling or magnetic permeability are of the utmost concern, Heli-Coil manufactures it's Heli-Tronic insert, a gall resistant stainless steel material with strength properties similar to our standard stainless steel material.
