Emhart to Host Fourth Annual Fastener Systems Seminar Oct. 21
 
Mercedes engineer to present case study on fastening technology

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (Oct. 7, 2002) – Emhart Teknologies will host its fourth annual Emhart Fastener Systems Seminar Oct. 21 at Michigan State University’s Management Education Center in Troy, Mich., from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Original equipment manufacturers, Tier 1, Tier 2 suppliers and the media are invited to attend.  

Scheduled to present material at the seminar is Christine Yingli Lee, Emhart’s director of research & development and other key industry professionals including Dieter Oetken, a fastener engineer from Mercedes-Benz.  Oetken is responsible for the successful installation of the Stud Welding Systems equipment used throughout DaimlerChrysler Europe and South Amercia.

Oetken will present a case study on the European auto makers “Bill of Process” for installing more than 300 weld studs per vehicle at 1,200 vehicles per day per DaimlerChrysler assembly plant. He also will have on display the Mercedes E Class “body in white” with components mounted on the weld studs.

“This seminar allows us to host top OEMs and suppliers from around the world and provide a forum to share industry trends and present technological developments,” said Michael A. Tyll, president, Emhart Automotive, a division of Emhart Teknologies.

In addition, guest speakers will discuss current trends in the automotive industry as they apply to design and fastening technology. Scheduled topics to be discussed include:

  • Self piercing riveting processing, design and joint performance
  • New developments in plastic fasteners
  • Welding systems self diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • High strength metal retainers for automotive interior applications
