Emhart Teknologies Acquires Licensing Business of Refac Technologies;
Gains Worldwide Licensing Rights for Heli-Coil and Dodge Product Lines

NEW HAVEN, Conn., (Oct. 1, 2002) - As part of the company’s efforts to unify product lines and protect investment in its key product brands, Emhart Teknologies announced today that it has acquired the licensing business of Edgewater, N.J.-based Refac Technologies, LLC.  The acquisition gives Emhart exclusive ownership and worldwide licensing rights for Heli-Coil and Dodge product lines. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“This acquisition is a strategic move that gives Emhart direct access and relationships with our global partners,” said Paul A. Gustafson, executive vice president, Black & Decker and president, Emhart Teknologies.  “Working directly with key manufacturing partners will provide new opportunities for growth and increased profitability for all parties,” he said.

To ensure the company maximizes its investment and meets critical Heli-Coil and Dodge brand objectives in engineering, manufacturing and distribution, Emhart has appointed Greg Wind, as global marketing manager for Heli-Coil and Dodge.  Wind will work to:

  • Drive and manage more consistent new product developments;
  • Foster technical cooperation across manufacturers by establishing best practices; and,
  • Unify the brands by coordinating marketing and communications programs.

“We’re confident that the end-users -- our customers - will benefit from a broader array of products and services,” Gustafson said.  “From engineering, manufacturing and distribution, Emhart can now directly guide and protect these quality brands.”

Heli-Coil screw thread inserts and Dodge threaded inserts for plastics are used in the aerospace, automotive, communications, computer, defense and medical industries.
